Wie werden unsere Teppiche hergestellt?

How are our rugs prepared?

Moroccan Amazigh rugs have become a prominent element in interior design around the world due to their texture and softness, sometimes in vibrant warm colors and sometimes in pastel tones.

How are these rugs prepared? in a short summary,

Amazigh rugs are carefully handwoven made by female artists living in the rural areas of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The preparation of a rug can take 4 to 8 weeks (sometimes longer) depending on the size of the rug and the colors of the model. Of course, the preparation of the wool does not fall within this period. The yarns are made from sheep's wool naturally grown on the land. After the wool has been washed and dried, it is made into yarn and dyed with natural pigments or left in its natural color. This entire process is carried out in compliance with ancient traditions and requires great effort.
The model and color of the rug reflect the mood of the artist who weaves the rug. These shapes are usually different Amazigh symbols and each symbol has a meaning. The most obvious and eye-catching of these symbols is the diamond symbol against evil eye and evil spirits. Each rug is unique and one of a kind. We should not forget that hand-woven rugs can have minor flaws or imperfections. This makes the rug even more unique and gives it character.

Although many crafts are threatened with extinction in today's globalized and industrialized world, carpet weaving in Morocco has been passed down from mother to daughter, father to son for centuries, while still adhering to ancient traditions.

In addition, weaving rugs in Morocco is an art and the Amazigh families who make them are true artists. This craft is a great heritage of Morocco.
